Helping out my family!

Now some of of my family are getting old they can't do all the things they used to be able to do. That means they sometimes need a lot of help. So I decided to help my grandparents by...

  • Sweeping the cobwebs
  • Taking the dog for walks
  • Looking after granddad when nana was away
  • Blowing the leaves out of their garage and porch
  • Cleaning up the court and sandpit area
Doing those things made me feel good because I knew I was helping everyone one out. Now I would like to share some of my photos with you!

Canterbury cross country!
The run of challenges!

As I walked up to the starting line butterfly's were buzzing around in my stomach like little maniacs! "On your marks, go!" so I pushed my way in to the middle of the pack. When I was half way up the hill my arms felt like they were being weighed down with cement. After a bit more running I saw mum and dad on the sideline saying "keep going, you can do it" so I kept on going.

Soon it got nearer to the creek and the mud was picking up... then slip the guy next to me slipped and fell as I stumbled next to him. Soon enough I could see the finish line. I spotted Dad on my left and he said " pick up the pace!" so I ran like I was being chased by a pack of hungry wolfs! I passed someone and continued sprinting, 100 meters to go 50,10... I had done it!

I wanted to collapse and die but I had to walk to the tent to get my place recorded.  I crawled over to my mum and dad and gulped down every last bit of water! Mum and dad were so proud of me!

I really enjoyed representing Pegasus and clarkville school for Canterbury champs cross country. It was awesome!

My inquiry, six generations

For my inquiry in term one I made a family tree of just over 100 people which stretched back to four people six generations ago. I have discovered a lot about my ancestors and their history which includes great grandad Jim and great nana Leney. My cousin jack and were really fascinated by the discoveries we had made and chose to go further in the subject. The oldest people in my family tree, who are now dead are fredrick and Ida Wilkins and clement Moore and Annie kingim. I have found out about some marvellous things about my family history that I never knew before.

I found out my research by asking my relatives like great nana Leney. It was really awesome to find that my great uncle was a racing car driver called bert Hawthorne and someone called William pen is in my family who founded Pennsylvania. After finding all about my ancestors I presented a family tree which I have just told you about. Now I will keep my info safe and treasure it for my life!!

The gala!!!

The awesome gala!!
There was three days to go until the Clarkville Gala which meant three days of planning, organising and getting our gear ready so we were prepared.

Things to get done
• Have a meeting with our group and make a plan.
• Get signs made so people know what our stalls are doing.
• Get together all the things we need to make our stall successful.
• Buy some prizes to give to the people who do our activities.
• Find a place to setup our stall before anyone else takes the spot we want.

So we planned what supplies we needed which are the following:
• Prizes to give to the people who participate in our activities.
• A box to store the sand in for the sand-pit dig.
• Some apples for the apple bobbing.
• Signs so our activities can be easily spotted
• Bicycle helmets for our stack a hat.
• Activities for all ages so everyone can have some fun!
• Cheap prices so people can do our activities without wasting money.
• And last of all good service so people will want to do our activities twice!!!

How much would it cost to get our supplies???
We thought it would not cost much because we had some of the supplies at home that we could afford to use. We also are getting some things donated to us which is good for us and the school. But we still had to spend some money on getting apples and prizes in the way of food.

Who would do what?????
• Apple bobbing: We decided that Archie and Jordan would do the apple bobbing because they were really keen about holding that stall.
• Sand-pit dig: We thought Leon and I would do it because we both really wanted to.
• Stack-a-hat: Jack put his hand up to do it so he would do it with the help of Ryan.

Two days have past and we are going good with organising our gear but since we have three stalls there is still a bit of work to do.

Ten minutes until the end of school and I am pretty sure we have done all of the stuff we needed to have done. After a while school was finished for the day so I rushed to find my group, which was Leon, Archie, Jordan, Jack and I. After we got together we met at our setup area. After what seemed like no longer than two minutes we had finished setting up and had our first customer. Who would service them, me or Leon? Leon we decided. After a few more customers we got the hang of it which was good because we were getting more customers by the minute. To make it fair our stallholders were taking turns at having shifts. But after a couple of shifts for each of the groups time was running out to make the money we needed for the school. Our stalls were really popular though so we did not have to worry much. Soon the gala was finished so our group got together and made some reflections on what we did.

Here are some examples:

How much did it cost? Only about $25 because we had to buy some apples and some of the food for prizes but we also used some of our own supplies for the rest of the activities. We also got lots of prizes donated from Kaz.

How much we made? Well we had three activities and counting all of them we made $250 which is a lot of money!

What we did well!!!
We thought we did a good job at customer service because we did not get any complaints and lots of people came to our stalls. We also thought we worked well as a team and earned lots of tickets because people thought our stall was great!!!!

The weetbix triathlon!!!

The Big Day
When I heard mum knocking on my bedroom door I rushed out of my bed like a stampede of buffaloes and whipped on my clothes as fast as the wind. Next I wolfed down my brekkie like a messy pig and then we were off! As we were speeding down the motorway I moaned "are we there yet" But mum continued replying "no" over and over again until we finally arrived at Pioneer Stadium and met the other Clarkville kids near the coffee truck.

We were waiting for what seemed like years but finally the man with the loud speaker said "All the red swim cap people go over to the pool and the team runners and bikers go to the transition areas". As soon as I heard his deep voice I stumbled through the people until I spotted a sign that read "team runner waiting point". When I got there the weetbix helper talked to me and the other kids and said that we were going to have to sit around lazily doing nothing but waiting for the next 40 minutes. That was really annoying for me because I was already to go at that time!

I sat there for for what seemed like a millennium but in the end Mitch came like a bullet down from the bike area to tag me and I was gone! I slowed down a little because I needed to keep the pace so I did not have to stop in the middle of the race! My heart was thumping like a set of bongos as my breathing stared to dry out my neck like it was in a drought in the Sahara desert on a hot day! I looked in front of me and saw that Jess Roche was right in front of me so I picked up some speed and zoomed past her like a tornado. Now I was on the home straight, and my family and friends were cheering for me as loud as thunder!!! I was so close now 30 metres to go,20,10 I've done it. I wanted to flop to the ground but I continued on to get my medal so I could say I had a go at it! I ran off to see my mum who was really proud of me so she got me a hot chocolate from the coffee truck!

After that I asked mum where Mitchell and Lachlan had gone but she said that she did not know so I wandered around until I finally found them over by the bouncy rugby challenge area. So Mitchell,Lachlan and I got some photos at the Sunday star times area and millions of tattoos at the Toyota tent! Finally I went back to the Clarkville school area ready for the prize-giving. But mum explained that some of the people had not finished their races yet so we would have to wait for a bit longer so I rushed over to Mike and Mitch who were going to watch the rest of the Clarkville school kids finish their race. When I saw someone from our school I raced some of their race with them. Next we had prize-giving and then I went home feeling awesome that we achieved the race!!!
